Appropriate Technologies Centre.
The Council has established an
Appropriate Technologies Research, Development & Promotion Centre [ATC]
at Govt. Polytechnic, Sundernagar in 1995 for the development and propagation
of appropriate technologies in the State. | |

ATC, Sundernagar
|
ATC has
propagated a number of technologies for hilly areas nanely water mills (gharats),
hydrams, ferro cement, low cost housing, earth quake resistance & solar
passive housing. The Centre has done commendable work in popularising green
houses construction in Himachal Pradesh. So far more than 400 green houses
have been installed by the Centre in the farmer fields in the State. The
Centre has created facilities for training and capacity building of manpower
for propegation of the technologies in remote areas of the State. Farmers
use these green houses for growing nursery and vegetables even during winters.

Building
Centre
The Council has catalysed setting up a Building Centre
at ATC, Sunder Nagar in
collaboration with HUDCO to promote low cost & environment friendly building
construction technologies.

The
Council has established an autonomous organisation, National Research
& Technology Consortium [NRTC], at Parwanoo in March, 1995 for providing
technological support to industries in Himachal Pradesh and to train technical
man power in industrial R&D. NRTC has since been contributing significantly

A rain water harvesting tank installed in a village
The Council constructed 100 rooftop rain harvesting structures using
ferro-cement technology on demostration basis in the State. It conducted
technical review and prepared a document on the designs of ferro-cement
technology through an expert team supported by UNICEF. The Council
has organised trainings for engineers, masons and NGO's. The Council
also provides technical assistance
for installing roof top rain water harvesting structures.
A Policy on rain water harvesting has been framed by Govt. of H.P.
an Council's initiative.

Use of Bio-fertilizer
Prolonged use of synthetic
nutrients cause irreparable damage to the soil health. Council initiated
training programmes to popularise the use of bio-fertlizers among
the farmers of the state.
Use of Pine-needles and Lantana biomass as a Fuel
Lantana an obnoxious weed is
growing abundantly in the state and pine-forests are available in bulk
in many districts which cause forest fire during dry in summer season.
Council is trying to propagate the integrated use of the bio-mass by
converting into char briquettes are used as fuel in special designed
stoves/pyrolygers.
